Thermo-optical sensor to diagnose skin cancer in real time and in a non-invasive way<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radiantis<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>, <\/strong><\/strong><\/a>ASE Optics Europ<\/a>e<\/strong>, Procarelight<\/strong> <\/a>and the <\/a><\/strong>Institute of Photomedici<\/strong><\/strong>ne<\/a><\/strong> are collaborating on the SKINSENS project to develop a sensor to diagnose skin cancer in real time and in a non-invasive way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project proposes the fabrication of a temperature sensor network capable of detecting biological and physico-chemical alterations in the skin caused by cancer<\/strong>. The solution, currently at the prototype stage, can be applied in the form of a patch and must be compatible with the mechanical properties of human skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, coordinated by secpho<\/strong>, has received funding from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism <\/strong>corresponding to Next Generation EU<\/strong> funds, canalised through the support programme for Innovative Business Groups, whose objective is to digitalise industry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Squamous cell carcinoma or squamous cell cancer (SCC or SqCC) is a cancer of a kind of epithelial cell, the squamous cell. These cells are the main part of the epidermis of the skin, and this cancer is one of the major forms of skin cancer. However, squamous cells also occur in the lining of the digestive tract, lungs, and other areas of the body, and SCC occurs as a form of cancer in diverse tissues, including the lips, mouth, esophagus, urinary bladder, prostate, lung, vagina, and cervix, among others. Despite sharing the name squamous cell carcinoma, the SCCs of different body sites can show tremendous differences in their presenting symptoms, natural history, prognosis, and response to treatment. SKINSENS would allow a “Point of Care” diagnosis for skin cancer that is cheaper and less invasive than a biopsy.<\/strong>
